Foreign Nurses Working in Japan: Assessments of the EPA Program (ed. Yuko Hirano and Michiyo Yoneno-Reyes) was introduced in the Miyazaki Nichinichi Shimbun book review section\u2019s \u201cNew Publications Guide\u201d on 9 May 2021. The book\u2019s editors say there is insufficient research on foreign nurses and careworkers who came to Japan under economic partnership agreements (EPAs). Pointing out that the people \u201cshould not be seen merely as a \u2018labor force\u2019 and a barter for Japanese cars and liquefied natural gas,\u201d they engaged in comprehensive research on the topic. More than one-third of the foreign nurses had already returned to their home countries, not only because of the language barrier, but also because it was difficult for them to switch to jobs at other facilities and to have their families accompany them. The problems faced by foreign nurses \u201care the problems of Japanese society.\u201d<\/p>\n
